AllRecipes Hacked: Many Account Credentials Compromised in Data Breach
AllRecipes.com, the food lovers site or what is described as a "food-focused social network," has been hacked on a string of servers comprising of user account credentials dated before June 2013. If you had registered an account prior to June 2013 on AllRecipes.com, please change your password (make it a good one).

Here is a copy of the email sent to warn users of the breach, in case their account was registered prior to June 2013:

Allrecipes did confirm this data breach to users, but did so indirectly. Other experts have also declared that Allrecipes did nothing to warn users publicly, but just did so privately by email. What Allrecipes obviously does not know is that if some users' emails were hacked into, or the user did not have their email anymore, then a public notice would be very useful, because the person may remember their account credentials and may be able to change their email address to continue using their site.

Most users, however, only have one email address and aren't keen to change them that often. A hacker who has stolen your email address and password may not only attempt to use those credentials to unlock other online accounts you own, but might also monetise their theft by launching spam or phishing attacks against your inbox.

Please change your password on the affected site if you had an account there June 2013 and before. You'll be glad you did! (Also change your email if possible.)
