New Friendly Ads for our users
FRIENDLY ADS ARE HERE!!!
While we were doing our forum upgrade, we disabled ads for our users. There were many unfriendly ads, popups, and other issues occurring with them. So, we did our best to remove those ones for good. We've been waiting for quite a while, until our forum upgrade was complete, and put the ads on the to do list on low priority. This is to ensure we are still helping our users while the forum upgrade finishes.
Now that the forum upgrade is finished, we have decided to begin the "friendly ads" system, which will help us help you with ads that are more likely to satisfy you, and support us in the process. The friendly ads do not use your personal information, are not invasive, and are specifically catered to the theme of this site rather than catered to you personally. This ensures that you receive exactly what you want, while you are here, instead of targeting you with something unrelated.
We find personalized ads annoying, which is why they were removed, because why would you, as a user, want to receive an ad for example "stockings and mittens" on a tech site? Does that make sense? I would rather see an ad for the latest computer accessory that everyone's hyping about than see an ad for winter gear. So, we had to ask, "how can we work out a friendly ads system, but it not use personal information?"
Our answer was creative partnerships with third parties. We have decided to invoke third party friendly ads to assist in this process. These third party ads might collect non-personally identifiable information according to our Privacy Policy only. We also note other things in our Terms of Service about third parties.
Nonetheless, this thread is to inform you. We have made a specific partnership with two companies so far: EaseUS (a data recovery and backup company) and VigLink (an affiliate ad company). Now, VigLink has offered to automatically insert affiliate links, to which we have a full disclosure about on our About Us page. You do not have to click these links but it will help us if you do, and we will do our best to ensure things stay appropriate and related.
We appreciate all of our users here, and if there is any questions about ads, please post them here or Contact us.
