How to Disable Startup Programs in Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10

If you find Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 is taking a long time to start up, you can disable programs that normally load during boot-up. This may help shorten your boot time. Managing startup applications only applies to desktop applications. Modern UI (Metro) Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 apps are not allowed to start automatically when Windows starts.

1. Please open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard keys.

2.  From Task Manager click Startup tab.

You’ll now have a list of programs that start when your computer boots up. By using the column headings, you can reorder the entries by name, publisher and status.

Task Manager makes it easy to disable a program from starting up. All you need to do is click on the desired program and then Disable. The Task Manager will update that entry to show that it is now disabled.

Be careful when disabling programs: some may be required for your computer to operate correctly. If in doubt, research it first.

☞Honorable mention that MSCONFIG is not a good idea to use to edit startup, since it is best suited for testing purposes by experienced Windows administrators. What is best to use are the tools built into Windows to edit startup or trusted third-party tools.
