How to Enable Ubuntu Bash In Windows 10
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14316, induce Ubuntu Bash console kit and utils. However, it is disabled by default. If you would like to play with the Bash console in Windows 10, here is how you can enable it.
First, you need to enable Windows Subsystem for Linux. Do it as follows.
1. Open Control Panel --> Program and Feature.
2. On the left, click the link Turn Windows features on or off.
3. The dialog Windows Features will appear on the screen. Scroll down to the option named Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta) and enable it as shown below:
4. Click OK button to apply the changes you made. Windows will install Ubuntu Bash.
5. Reboot the operating system when prompted.
You just installed Ubuntu Bash in Windows 10. However, in build 14316, it requires Developer mode to be enabled in order to use the Bash console. Here it how to enable it.
1. Open Settings.
2. Go to Update and Security -> For developers.
Click Yes in the confirmation dialog:
You can try Ubuntu Bash in action, do the following:
1. Open the Command Prompt by typing cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.
2. Type following Command:
3. When prompted, press Y to continue. Windows 10 will download the required components from the Windows Store and extract the Linux file system.
If you get a "Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions" message, click https://aka.ms/wslstore url link and download Ubuntu on Windows.
You can also execute lxrun /install command at the Command Prompt but lxrun command only used to configure the legacy Windows Subsystem for Linux distribution.
After successful installation, it will ask you to create a username and password. This user account has no relationship to your Windows username and password and hence can be different.
Once done, You can open the Ubuntu bash shell in Windows by typing bash in the Start Menu or by clicking Ubuntu icon in Start Menu.

You can use a number of regular Linux console apps and commands, or install more apps in the traditional Ubuntu Linux way. You can run common command-line utilities such as grep, sed, ls and awk etc..
