Well, the host files appear to have been reset but the log shows this: Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter = Wireless Network Connection (Connected)
Was the laptop working well before this event?

Yeah, Its always worked really well, I've never had issues like this at all. What does that broadcom message mean?

It means you're connected. What kind of message do you get when you try your browser?

This is what Chrome has: Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 2 Interneterror_zpsnrtiu0hv

Just replace "www.google.ca" with whatever other site because they all have the exact same error.

In IE 64 bit, it just has a "Cannot display this page" error with no specific details. Firefox was constantly crashing upon trying to run the browser, doing that "Firefox has encountered an error" thing, and wouldn't even open a browser window. I uninstalled FF a few days ago, thinking that maybe it was causing the error, but nope.

I already have the Malware Bytes program and I'd already run a scan prior to this, but I ran another.  There was no threats at all detected, so it didn't give me a log.

So, having issues with this program. It runs just fine for an hour or so, and then this happens:

Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 2 Esetscan_zpsvcbylhad

And its all frozen up and won't go any farther. It did that the first time so I closed it out and restarted it, but it did it again the second time. I'm trying a third time now to see exactly when it happens (staying nearby, last time I was in a different room while it scanned) but I'm going to give up if it happens again

Strange. It did the same thing to me. Let's try this one.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives

5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
9. Please post this log in your next reply.

Okay, I got Kaspersky Security Scan running. In settings though, there wasn't any place I could see to check off those boxes (I didn't see those options at all), just "run deep scan" so I clicked that.

There also isnt "my computer" under scan, just "My Kaspersky" :S

Okay this kaspersky scan is not working. It keeps crashing and not finishing scans. What else can I do?

Please download Farbar Service Scanner to the desktop and run it on the computer with the issue.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Make sure FRST is run under administrator privileges.
Make sure that the Whitelist section is checked.Otherwise, the log will be very long.
You Security programs may prevent the tool from running. If this happens, disable the security program until the scan is completed.

  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

  • Press "Scan".

Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 2 FRSTicon

Internet browsers and internet refusing to work, think its a hardware problem? - Page 2 FRSTconsole-1

  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
