on my dell E6400 the bottom gets warm to the touch after I have been using it a while,, should I change my settings in power to hibernate after 20 minutes, or stand by .

It's normal for the bottom to get warm after usage. You can buy ventilating pads to set the laptop upon to eliminate this problem.
