Hi my original post was with internet and wireless because I cannot get Browsers to function properly, the moderator thinks I have a virus and recommended this page.

Below is my original post, thanks Pete.

Browsers wont load pages correctly :- incorrect coding error

Post by pb1947 on Sun 24 May - 10:48
Hi, I have been pulling my hair out over these issues. I have tried Firefox, IE and Google Chrome and have the same prob on all browsers. Some sites, (ebay is one) will not load the script right, it will be overlapping and all text mainly to the left of the page, I am experiencing it with this site. the spinning circle on the tab keeps spinning non stop. I have to consistently refresh the browsers to get most of the page loaded and frequently blank pages will load. When I download the download will stop with a small percentage to go and hang. when they do download most will hang with corrupt file error. As I have been typing, this page took 5 minutes to finish loading.
OS windows XP Pro

cheers and thanks Pete

ps this is the error I get a lot :- Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

Hello and welcome to GeekPolice.Net My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

The MBAM log doesn't look correct. Could you please run it again?
The Security log shows you are running two AV's on your computer. One should be disabled. Running two or more AV's or Firewalls can cause problems with the computer.

Update Your Java (JRE)

Old versions of Java have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

First Verify your Java Version

If there are any other version(s) installed then update now.

Get the new version (if needed)

If your version is out of date install the newest version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment.

Note: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Be sure to close ALL open web browsers before starting the installation.

Remove any old versions

1. Download JavaRa and unzip the file to your Desktop.
2. Open JavaRA.exe and choose Remove Older Versions
3. Once complete exit JavaRA.

Additional Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and reboot your computer.
*********************************************************
Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.

  • Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page for performing a scan.
  • Caution: This is a beta version so also read the disclaimer and back up all your data before using.
  • When the scan completes, click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats found and reboot the computer if prompted to do so.
  • Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
  • If there are problems with Internet access, Windows Update, Windows Firewall or other system issues, run the fixdamage tool located in the folder Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit was run from and reboot your computer.
  • Two files (mbar-log-YYYY-MM-DD, system-log.txt) will be created and saved within that same folder.
  • Copy and paste the contents of these two log files in your next reply.

Hi and once again thanks.

I cannot download any of the java fixes or mbar, Jra, jre as the downloads all stop at 2 seconds remaining and if the download does go through and I run the file I get this message :-

! C:\Documents and Settings\peter smith\My Documents\Downloads\JavaRa.zip: The archive is corrupt
! C:\Documents and Settings\peter smith\My Documents\Downloads\JavaRa.zip: The archive is corrupt
! C:\Documents and Settings\peter smith\My Documents\Downloads\JavaRa.zip: CRC failed in JavaRa.exe. The file is corrupt
! C:\Documents and Settings\peter smith\My Documents\Downloads\JavaRa.zip: The archive is corrupt

I am at a loss what to do to comply with your requested processes. I have been trying for 2 days, I was that frustrated I never booted up at all last night.

The reason the MBAM log was not right it was saved in the wrong format and I thought converting it back to .txt would be ok (which it wasnt). there are 2 logs, not sure which one you want so I will post both, the first is the scan log, the 2nd is the protection log

Thank you for your help it is appreciated, I live in a remote area and it is difficult for me to gain technical help. Cheers Pete

Hi again, I finally updated java, ran JavaRa, after bringing home the files on a flash drive but could not update MBar due to the download prob.

I ran same and noticed that the Viper Firewall errored and I could not reset it. I then turned off the Viper firewall and enabled windows firewall and BINGO, and 95% of the technical probs I was having were gone, I was then able to update MBar so I ran the updated version again.

The only thing that has me stumped is that checkup showed that I was running two AV's which I wasn't, I uninstalled AVG with its own uninstaller a year ago. I have checked with reevo and full searches and cannot find any trace of AVG using these methods??

My opinion of Viper is now the same as it was of AVG when I got rid of it. I think Nazzgul and I owe you a pint, I dont think I have a virus prob my prob was technical, but I will leave that up to you. posted are the 2 updated MBar logs.

cheers Pete
