Hello,
My daughter has a mini HP laptop which has a connection to the internet but gives message "This page can not be displayed". It diagnosed the problem as being the Norton 360 Premier Edition not properly installed. Tried uninstalling it and it does nothing and does not go away.
Any help with this is appreciated!
Valerie

Hello and welcome to GeekPolice.Net My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

Uninstalling an antivirus or any other program should always be done through Add/Remove Programs or by using a free third party uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller Select the 30 day trial one. Only use the below methods if the add/remove programs method fails.

UPDATE: I am doing the removal now...

Dave,
Did a hard shut down and went to safe mode to get on internet. Before that went to uninstall programs and it said the program looks like it was uninstalled would I like to take Norton 360 off the list of programs... I said yes... bad move.
Now when I tried to use the Revo it was not there. Next went to the Norton Removal tool site and did not understand how to get the removal tool even though I typed in" Norton Removal tool" and error code 8504,104. Can you go to the download page for me and paste it to the email so I can get the right tool? Thanks!

Typical Symantec. They've removed the removal tool. Please run the minitool box so I can see what's happening.

There doesn't appear to be any problem with the connection. What browser are you using? Did you try connecting the laptop to the modem with a wired connection?

I am using IE and I did not connect the laptop to modem. I am to tired now..I will try tomorrow. Sorry. Norton 360 makes this laptop so slow. is there any other software like it that maybe is free to add?

If you're looking for an Anti-virus program here are a list of free AV's. I would recomment MicroSoft Security Essentials for a trouble-free app.
You should go into your C drive, Program Files and delete any folders of Norton.

Remember to only install one antivirus!

1) Avast! Home Edition
2) AVG Free Edition
3) Avira AntiVir Personal
4) MicroSoft Security Essentials All versions and all languages.
5) Comodo Antivirus (Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" if you choose this one)

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.
