Boot up to Auto Repair, No Syst. Restore, Just Command Prompt

I unplugged my computer to take it in another room after shut down. It was on a surge protector. When I booted it up, it goes to Auto Repair, then Diagnostic PC, then Attempt Repairs, then cannot repair. It gave me a logfile: C\Windows\Sys32\Logfiles\Srt\Srttrail.txt
All that shows up is Delete to setup. In the menu tab, I switched HALT ON: to NEVER
System Restore says- No restore points have been created on your computer system drive.
Can get to Command Prompts and UEFI Firmware Settings, but that is about it.
This is my home-work computer and there is a lot of info I need for work tomorrow.
I will appreciate any help to get me back online.

Vista, I'm sorry but I somehow lost your pm while trying to reply to the message. Did you try booting in Safe Mode.

Yes, I have tried tapping F8 and it went right to Auto Repair. Then I would have to wait till it scans to get to advanced options screen. From there I can go to Command Prompt, and so on in Windows 8.1.

Do you have the OS disk (s) or is there a recovery console on your computer?

There is a system image recovery option. Is that the same thing?

I can't really determine what happened to your computer but the system recovery option will restore your computer to the day it was purchased. Unfortunately, you will lose any data you have on your computer. If you do have data that you may want to save before going down that road, I can show you how to create a disk that will enable you to get into the computer to save those important files to an external disk or DVD's.

I do have Carbonite. Does that save everything I have?

The only thing that I remember came up was something about Disk Registry the first time I tried to start up. I don't know if the computer was all the way shut down when I pulled the plug. The screen was dark so I thought it was shut off. Will I loose the programs I added like Quick Books too?

I know very little about Carbonite other than it is designed to backup your files and programs. If it was backed up recently, you should be able to restore your files and programs.

Something may have been damaged in the Registry. I'm afraid that the recovery console is you best bet, at this point.

OK lets save my files and pictures. How about my info on Quick Books... will the program come back or do I have to reload it?
I am not sure how to reload the files also.

I've never had any experience with backup programs so I'm not the person to ask. Why not contact Carbonite? They should be able to help with all those questions.

I would advise you to also save and files from Quickbook or MS Word. You can save them to an external drive or DVD's. You will need to create a rescue disk that will enable you to boot your computer from the disk. Then it will be just a matter of saving your files.

We are going to be using a Windows Recovery Environment to help disinfect the system so it may boot again.

Download the OTLPE Standard REATOGO Windows Recovery Environment.

• Place a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burning drive.
  
• Download OTLPEStd.exe and double-click on it to burn to a CD using an ISO Burner. One can be found here.
  
• Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
  
• Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  
• Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.

Well, I just finished resetting my PC...cleaned just files and apps.. did not clean the hard drive. It said to choose clean files and apps if you are keeping the computer. Choose clean hard drive if you are not. I called Carbonite and they have all my files to transfer. I am now able to get online. Should I do anything else before I add my QuickBooks software?

Once your files are restored to your computer your Quickbooks should be able to open those files.
