I was using my laptop fine two mornings ago. Powered down as I always do. Went to boot it back up that afternoon and my keyboard is not responding. I have to use the virtual keyboard (which is truly a pain) and I have tried everything, even taking it apart and making sure nothing was out of place, loose, dirty, etc. Still, no keyboard. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated ASAP. I am running the Windows 7 Home Premium edition and computer was manufactured June 2012.

Please help! I use this computer only for my college classes and I HAVE to have it up and running! It has EVERYTHING on it! I do have access to another computer and flash drives if I need to run any programs. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you install any new hardware or software prior to this event? You could try System Restore to a date previous to this event. There are many reasons why it would stop working. You can check out these links here.
I forgot to mention you can buy a keyboard for about $3 and plug it into the USB port.

Hi Superdave:

I didn't install any new hardware or software. And yesterday afternoon, I turned my computer back on and the keyboard worked all of a sudden! I don't understand at all why or how. I'm going to look at the links you posted and will be back on if it happens again of course! Thank you for your help! As always, you guys are so awesome!

Actually - one other quick question. The touchpad on the computer will not right click when I boot up. In order to right click on things, I have to go to: Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Mouse and just open that window. Then I can close everything without ever going into the Elan PS/2 Port Smart-Pad tab or any other tab - I just have to open the mouse window and then X out of it - any idea what THAT might be about. It says the device is working properly and I've checked for driver updates and there aren't any so....???

The only thing I can think of is that some liquid or dirt is under those keys.
