Was wondering if you would recommend using them and if so which ones you would recommend. Also I have heard about a tool called system protect. Anyone recommend this. Thanks much.

Hi

Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications and their potential for harming your OS far outweighs any small potential for improving your computer's performance.

There are a number of them available and some are more safe than others. Keep in mind that no two registry cleaners work completely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what is a "bad" entry. One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause a problem when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work. Without research into what the registry entry selected for deletion is, a registry cleaner can end up being an automated method to cause problems with the registry.

For routine use by those not familiar with the registry, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.

Ok I have run them in the past. Is there anything you can do about any damage that may have been done? I have used Registry mechanic and Registry optimizer.

well, my advice is there is only one I would go with, but at the same time I no very little about regedit without looking up what it wants to remove every time If damage is done there is one thing everyone who uses them or advises them should tell you back up the files from the program before you do so As I have told others if you are unsure on how to backup and restore the files using that editer then the programs are not for you I stated this in many other fourms but yet again people think check them all and make them leave fixes the problem. Most of the time you just created a bigger problem. In reply to this I would say do not use it and use other things to speed up your system such as diskdefrag and windows cleanup tool built into windows

I have used Auslogics and Wise Registry Cleaners for some time, carefully, cautiously, selectively -- with good results -- in that useless outdated material is removed.  However, I never used anything to gain speed, to slim OS & operations, and so on -- such ideas cause more grief than joy.
