Hey guys,
So there seems to be an issue installing Windows on the 120GB SSD as seen below. My friend sent me everything that was done in the last two days and I was even there yesterday trying it out. Sorry for the following 'text-heavy' post but I feel every bit of info could be important.
So a friend of mine got new parts for a PC I had built for her a while ago. The Current setup is:
CPU - Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz Quad Core
MOBO - Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P LGA1155
RAM - 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866Mhz CL9
GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 660ti 1019MHz 2GB Power Edition
PSU - Antec High Current Gamer Series 750W Bronze Certified
CPU Cooler - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro PWM Rev.2
SSD - Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB - NEW Drive
- Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB - NEW Drive
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM - NEW Drive
- Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM
Optical Drive - Samsung SuperWritemaster SH-222AB
Wireless Card - TP-LINK 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band
OS - Windows 7 Home Premium
Case - CoolerMaster HAF X
We started by putting all the parts into the case. Everything went great. Then when that was done we proceeded to boot up the OS disk from the optical drive. After which Windows began to load up and initialize. When it was done it asked me to set up a user profile for Windows, which I did, and it said it was making the profile - DURING this process it then crashed the PC. So. I rebooted and it told me I needed to create a User profile again, BUT my old one I had tried to set up just before was still there but I wasn't able to access it. After I created the NEW user profile Windows then booted into the desktop. Then I had 2 user profiles BOTH of which were Administrator profiles. I deleted the one I didn't want and was left with ONE login.
Everything was going great after that and we began to download all of the drivers for the:
Chipset
Network Interface Card (NIC/LAN)
USB
Audio
Video
This was easy enough until the drivers would crash mid way through installing and Windows would bluescreen... I would get to about 70% of each install and Windows would bluescreen.
Eventually I got them all installed and I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes to keep it safe during the setup process.
Not sure if this is related but after the NVIDIA driver went in I got the resolution to be the way it usually is (1920 x 1080). I was using a HD cable at this stage, and when it was put into 1920 x 1080 the TOP half of my screen would be BLURRY or 3D looking, yet the bottom was perfectly clear sharp HD... So lets say I had a window open? The top part would be blurry when I pushed it over the halfway mark on the screen yet the bottom would be perfectly clear because it was below the halfway mark? Does that make sense? Once I put in the VGA cable it would be PERFECT in native 1920 x 1080 with NO BLUR, so I am wondering why the HD cable wouldn't work yet a VGA was fine?!
After this I started to download Windows Updates, there was 108 of them. It was running great for a while and got to around 17 when it froze and I had to reboot again, when it booted back up it started doing the remaining updates, when it got to update 35 it froze again and needed a reboot... This continued until I had reset the PC a good 10-15 times and eventually all updates were installed. Having got all of the drivers and updates onto the PC I thought I was good to go, but then it started to act up. Things like Windows Explorer (like even opening up the start menu, moving program windows around the screen) started to 'Stop Responding'. Even basic things on the computer would just make it bluescreen. Nothing 'Windows Related' was running smoothly. Also, things actually started 'lagging', which was really weird. Like I would move the mouse across the screen to the start menu for example but it would lag the whole way across, jaggedy delayed responses, pure lag. Don't know what that was, it has since stopped.
After it looked like it had stopped bluescreening, I began to load it up with my programs:
OS/Utilities was on the 120GB
Steam/Games on the 240GB
Storage on the 2TB
Old PC's files on the 500GB
Everything seemed to be going wonderful. So I opened up Steam and downloaded Arma II and it's 4 expansions. When they downloaded I loaded up Combined Operations like I always do when looking to play and it ran perfectly. It looked fantastic with the new GPU in comparison to the old 560ti. I then decided I would play with the graphics settings, the SECOND I slid the 'view distance' bar my entire PC crashed and bluescreened. I started it up again and went back into Arma II when it told me I had a BAD serial... So, I uninstalled all of the games and began to re-install them. Whilst reinstalling, the Arma II install crashed the PC at 74%. When I booted up Windows AGAIN, the game finished the install but would refuse to launch, I verified the integrity of the games cache files and it downloaded the missing 14 files it needed from the bad-install. Loaded up the game, it ran for a few minutes then again, bluescreen.
So, I removed Steam and didn't even bother my hole to try any further.
The strange thing about the PC acting up is that I ran Catzilla Benchmark on it and it was PERFECT, nothing I threw at it crashed it or caused it to freeze, JUST things to do with Windows it seemed. Drivers not installing, devices becoming unrecognized, updates freezing, windows locking, interface unresponding.
I also need to mention that when I ran things like 'Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool' it said that the RAM was perfect with no faults, BUT what I wanted to point out was that whenever I would run a checkdisk or a memory test it would say 'Please Restart Windows and when you log in your results will be posted' - every time I logged in to check results Windows would NEVER post it, making me think even more so that there may be something wrong with my OS disk...?
I get stuck and frozen on the Windows 'FLAG' start screen sometimes too, just before the desktop is meant to load. Internet pages often 'crash' and need to be refreshed, shockwave player crashes upwards or 20 times daily.I have only now started marking down the Bluescreen errors, so far I have two, but there has been ALOT. I could send you a 2-3 page list of how many system failures I've had, anyways here's the two I wrote down:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
That's what it said at the top of the bluescreens both the times I wrote them.
I am reading up about these constantly and I keep seeing that it may be bad memory (even though I have tested it) or even a bad CPU or even overheating. I really don't know at this stage.
AFTER ALL OF THIS, I completely wiped everything AGAIN, and reinstalled Windows, whilst it was initializing and running really well it had a FAILURE whilst installing the OS?! Something related to the 'calender gadget'?. After this it told me to run a chkdsk on login, but, as I logged in I got a System 32 failure which I couldn't read before it switched off. So this also lead me to believe it might be a OS problem as the computer wasn't even set up yet and it was failing? Anyways, that's where I am now, with an unstable system, terrified to even bother putting programs onto it.
What I was going to do today, my last idea, was to put back in my 560ti JUST to see if the bluescreen overheating rumour may be caused by the 'well known' MSI 660ti triple overvolting issues. But I don't even know if I should bother. It could even be the motherboard for all I bloody know hahaha.
I really really really don't know what to do anymore, I have done everything that I know and can't understand the problem. I hope that somehow this could help you get a view on the situation I am currently dealing with. I will do ANYTHING to get this up and running smoothly. It's killing me to waste such a system.
