When my son turns his computer on, it comes on then it stays on the black screen with the green thing moving........and just stays there like its trying to boot but cant. When it comes on it says "windows failed to launch, may be a hard ware or software issue" then it tells me to click either, system repair or start normally. I have done both......nothing...I have gone and done F8, nothing, even F12, any advice? he has an Acer..........its only 2 years old and of course, no warranty.........................

If you have the restore disk(s), you can try to boot from them. There should be an option to repair. If the repair doesn't work, there should also be an option to restore your computer to the factory condition.

Problem is if you restore your computer to factory condition, you'll lose your files. You can try to remove the hard drive from the computer and attach it to another computer using an adapter like this:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276554&CatId=3770.

Copy whatever files you need. Then with the hard drive connected to another computer via the adapter, find the drive in My Computer. Right click on it, go to Properties. Then click on the Tools tab and run the error-checking routine. If that is successful, your computer might boot once you put the hard drive back in it.

If the computer still doesn't boot, use the recovery disks to get your computer running. You'll have to then install your programs and restore the files that you copied off the hard drive.
