Hi guys,

Bit of a weird one here.

So I'm running Windows 7 on an Acer laptop. 3GB RAM. i3 processor.
The wireless card of the laptop is a Broadcom N network Adapter.
The router is a Netgear Wireless 150n router DGN1000

Basically up until recently I lived in my own apartment and I had 100MG UPC and the laptop connected fine to that, however since I moved back home, the laptop just will not connect to the router. I will Double click the network and after a second or two it will say 'Windows was unable to connect to ''. This happens even when I'm beside the router with full signal. Eventually if I keep trying to connect it will eventually connect and work fine from then on. Sometimes after maybe 30mins of trying, it won't connect at all.

I had noticed that whenever I enable to the network adapter it also enabled Microsoft Virtual Wifi miniport adapter. Even if I disable that and keep the wireless card enabled it still doesn't connect.

Something interesting to note was I was dual running Ubuntu and whenever I used that it seemed to connect fine.

There is another Acer laptop in the house with similar spec and connects fine from anywhere.

The house PC is using a USB wireless adapter and even that connects with no issues.

I've checked all settings and it seems all in order.

I'd be grateful for any advice or ideas as to what to do from here.

Thanks.

Try deleting the wireless profile for the home network and reconnect to it.

-Open the Control Panel
-Click View network status and task under Network and Internet
-Click Manage wireless networks on left panel.
-Remove the home profile and then attempt to reconnect

You may also want to check for an updated driver for the wireless card from the manufacturer support site.

Tried that already, when I enter the key it still says unable to connect.

I'll check the website for an updated driver and post back results.

Are you able to connect to other wireless networks?

What encryption is being used on the router? (WPA,WPA2,WEP)

Yeah when I was living in my own apartment I connected to the UPC router fine.

Encryption is WPA2.

Haven't had a chance to check for a driver yet.

After checking for an updated driver if still having issues temporarily

remove the encryption from the wireless router and see if you can connect.

Okay checked the driver and it's up to date.

I took off the encryption and after a min or so it connected and I disconnected and reconnected and it reconnected instantly.

Put WPA2 back on would not connect. Changed to WPA still wouldn't connect.

Changed to Mixed WPA + WPA2 and after about 5mins or so it connected and then when I disconnected it reconnected instantly.

I had restarted after each of these changes however today after shutting down it will now no longer connect.

It's looking like an encryption issue but I don't understand how or why.

Also to add:

Tried changing encryption's like yesterday and now nothing will connect even when there is no encryption.

Shameless self bump.

At this point it does connect but again its not instant, it takes 5-10mins of me needing to manual try to connect it each time. Any mods/admins care to give their two cents?
