Whenever I try to run any virus scan software, after 10 to 15 minutes the HP computer shuts down. This problem was first noticed when I was running Microsoft Flight Simulator(MSFS). It would run for a period of time and just shut down. My Avast program never could find any virus. After a month of trying to discover the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling MSFS I took my computer to a PC service for HP. They indicated some Windows files were missing because of bad disk sectors and installed a new hard disk and my old software. The problem appeared to be resolved but after a few months came back.

It was then that the anti-virus softwares would begin to crash. I've downloaded and installed at least 10 virus scan programs including ComboFix and OTL recommended by your web site. The same thing happens, after 10 to 15 minutes the computer shuts down. No warning screens or anything, just turns off.

I've also tried to run MS memory test software. I acquired this about 2 years ago when my computer was acting up and discovered I had a bad RAM memory which I replaced. I tried running the same software since this problem and discovered it gives unrepeatable results and even shuts the computer down sometimes, but not always like the virus scan programs.

I am very frustrated and would like to know your recommendations.

Bruce

Your computer could be overheating. You can download SpeedFan and check the temperatures.
