BOOTMGR is compressed

Recently, when I turned on my desktop computer, it loads the DELL screen and then goes straight to a black screen with:

BOOTMGR is compressed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del it restarts and goes back to the same black screen.

We made no changes to our computer previous to this, I did a research on our laptop and some suggested we get out Windows Vista cd and go from there, but we cant find it.

Any other suggestions?
