HDD failure.

The drive motor on my Maxtor HDD froze up. Being the inquisitive type, I opened the case and removed the discs. Can the data be recovered from those discs. I was not backing up on a regular basis(I've finally learned my lesson). I am an artist and have lost access to literally thousands of images and art/digital programs that were accumulated over the years. Some of these programs are no longer available.
Are there instruments out there that I can purchase that are specifically designed for this kind of recovery?
Are there entities that I can send my discs to that will be able to recover my data?
Am I bacisally frelled..............?

There are places that specialize in data recover. Just search for hard drive recovery and you'll find them. Drive Savers has been around for a long time.
