Internet stops working until I restart. Plz Help!

I’m using Chrome, Windows 7, and from time to time my internet stops working. When that happens, I open Firefox and IE, but still no internet. It only starts working after I restart the computer. The odd thing is that my mom uses a laptop, and she’s having the same problem. We recently had our cable provider install a new cable modem/router, but the problem still persists. My Mom’s laptop also has Windows 7, McAfee Antivirus Plus, and we’re both sharing a router. Hers is using wifi, mine is wired. Does someone have any suggestions? Any help would be great!

P.S. I cleared off the box with (network icon/properties/power management/) "allow computer turn off this device to save power"/ but this has resolved nothing. The problem is still there.

Since the problem is happening with your wired computer AND it's happening at the same time as your mom's laptop, then the problem is either in the modem/router or the ISP connection itself.

I would contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

In the meantime, we can check the connection to your router. You need to bring up a command line interface. Do that by holding the Windows key and typing an R. When the RUN box comes up, tyep in CMD and hit the ENTER key.

That will bring up a black windows with white lettering. You'll get a prompt ending with a ">". Type in ipconfig/all and hit the ENTER key. You should get a response. Look for the Default Gateway. It will probably be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

Now, at the prompt, type in PING and the Default Gateway address:
e.g. Ping 192.168.1.1
Then hit the ENTER key.

Look for a response from your router.
It should be something like:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64.
That tells you that the computer is communicating with the router. So that's good.

If it shows Request timed out, then you have a problem connecting to the router. If that's the case, the router is probably bad.
