Hello,

Did Photoshop Elements came together with the PC? Did you get the latest version from Adobe?

I am having the same issue. In my case the software was purchased after the computer. The computer is an HP dv-3060us with a 64 bit windows 7 system. I have updated the drivers, re-installed the software and all the other crap that adobe recomends.
Thanks

This is pretty much what I have experienced: PSE 8 added to a new HP Win 7 computer. The Organizer is stable, but the Editor crashes after a session or two after multiple reinstallations. I've followed all the instructions I've had from online docs as well from long telephone conversations with always polite tech support people. Nothing has worked. I don't understand why Adobe hasn't addressed what is now an egregious problem. The responsibility for the issue is no longer one shared by the user and Adobe: it belongs exclusively to the latter. The prospect of having a useless and relatively expensive program on my computer is not a happy one.

Since I posted the comment just above, I have gotten around the problem essentially by using the on-line solution posted by Adobe. I had tried it before with no success. Briefly, it requires copying PSE 8 to the desktop, disabling all the start-up programs, effectively eliminating User Access Control, and installing the software from the desktop folder to a root directory (i.e. C:\PSE8). Possibly my previous lack of success was owing to having enabled my start-up programs after installation. I have not yet re-enabled the start-up programs nor re-established the UAC. The question is now whether a given program's compatibilty/installations issues should effect the overall operation on one's computer.

Same boat here, volzfan. Only they wanted $39 ! I uploaded a style into PSE 8 and all of a sudden PSE either crashes as soon as I open it or I get this message:
Windows 7 & Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 Editor does not work GEDC0951

I removed the style, uninstalled PSE8, used CCleaner, and wow did I have a lot of junk--but to no avail. Someone mentioned a corrupted driver? I am not computer savvy so this means nothing to me.
I called tech support because I bought the warrenty with my Acer and they spent an hour and a half on the phone with me and finally admitted they couldn't find the problem and I might want to consider a full Recovery.

My assumption on this is that PSE8 is not compatible with Windows 7. My advice is to get a refund and purchase PSE9 since it's the latest. It works on Vista/7 and know from experience it does work.

The method you described below to get around the photoshop installation problem worked
like a charm. Now after 5 hours work and 3 adobe photoshop tech support calls (useless)
my photoshop elements 8 is re-installed! Thanks.
