First, hello. I have not been here in a while and will attempt to show up more often. Second, good job to Doctor Inferno, Dragon Master Jay, and everyone else who I know helped me in the past and are still helping others.

Now, I have MORE free aged (not TOO old though) computer parts and another pre-assembled computer (a compaq and will check the model when I get home) and I figured I would try to get that working first and I attempted to turn it on and... nothing. So my first instinct is... the most commonly overlooked issue... PSU. so I go rummaging through my new (old) parts and find a PSU that is 300w (yeah I know it is kinda lame) and go to plug it in but... after plugging it in I realized it doesn't have a P4 connector... but I try to turn it on anyhow and it turns on... fans and everything just not usable (as I knew would happen) so i try the same with the original PSU (no P4) and nothing so I am almost certain it is a PSU issue... just looking for a second opinion... thanks in advance!

I should just need to get a PSU with a P4 connecter and away I go?

Can you post the systems specs? Possibly under powering your system where the fans aren't powered enough to rotate. Also the P4 connectors are to power the Intel CPU of Pentium 4 and greater as well as newer AMD CPU's. If you keep testing that PSU, it might burn your paths on the board and thats the end of the story for the system.

i know the p4 was for pentium 4 CPU's and newer and with the celeron d line
and it iasn't under powered the original PSU is 250w and the one i tried (that had no P4) was 300w

the system specs are:
COMPAQ OEM computer
CPU: Celeron 331 (2.66 GHz) PGA478
GPU:integrated
2 HDD's and one CD-RW/DVD-rom drive

So if a missing P4 connector is the problem, you can buy a Molex to P4 connector for a couple bucks with that old 300w instead of replacing a power supply.

is it an adpater (passive) or a converter?

OH i see that is easy enough to do... i will make it up and report back if it works

hmmm... it was not successful but got me further than before... the southbridge did not heat up madly when i plugged it in... and when i turned it on... the fans werent at full speed... and the hard disks made loading noises... it was doing something then it stopa (i assume as it no loonger has the extra power it needs) so i will try with a newer PSU that i will be getting (hopefully) soon
