My computer became infected with MS Removal Tool. Can't use internet, CD-ROM/DVD drive ar any application. I tried some of the solutions on other websites such as unticking the Proxy server LAN box in Internet Options-this didn't work as the box wasn't ticked in the first place! I tried using last safe configuration in Safe mode (forgive me if I use wrong terminology, I know next to nothing about computers! Now, either the virus or my ham-fistedness has disabled Windows XP completely. It says that WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is corrupted or deleted. The machine is second-hand and I don't have a Windows-XP disk and no idea how to restore Windows let alone what to do about the virus. Can anyone help-please keep comments as simple , jargon free and step-by-step as possible!!
