Windows Live Messenger

I have Windows Live Messenger, version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726)
It seems that I cannot send (options are grayed out) a nudge, wink and even share an image (via drag+drop/copy+paste) to another contact that has the newest WLM version (2011).
I also have msgplus installed with my WLM. Occasionally the nudge option is available.
I require the aid of this amazing community.
