Problem found and fixed. Looks like Kaspersky or possibly AVG found and eradicated the virus / trojan, but completely un-installing and reinstalling Internet Explorer and Firefox was required to get whatever residual data or settings remained out of those programs. Just clearing their cache and history didn't do it. Mcafee clearly sucks both as a virus cleaning tool and as a protection tool, at least as far as trojans go. Kaspersky found lots of trojans after Mcafee said all was clear. AVG looks like a great tool in terms of providing alerts whenever any software within the computer attempts to make contact out to the web (critical in avoiding trojans that want to capture your passwords and pass them back to whoever sent the trojan). Given that, Mcafee is history, but now I need to decide on either Kaspersky or AVG going forward. The two do seem to run together fine, but that's probably overkill from a cost perspective.
