I'm running a Toshiba laptop with Vista. Recently I noticed that my CD-Rom (Matshida DVD-RAM UJ862ES) is no longer detected. I can open it, put a CD in, and hear it spin, but then it stops. The drive is not showing on my computer.
I've attempted to update the driver and it says I have the latest driver.

After a little further investigation, there appears to be a driver issue. I looked under Device Manager and the CD/DVD player is marked.
Under 'Properties' it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I've tried updating the driver.. no success.

Go to this page, and click on the Run now button: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems

It will run a diagnostic to tell you why you cannot play media, etc.

Let us know what it says.
