Tuff one really so many variables your pc should be clean after a reformat depends how deep it got anyway this what i would do with limited time

on your newly installed pc put an antivirus on it? you could always use norton, kasperkys, nod32 trial version only good for 30 days
or just use a good free one Avira Antivir personal probably your best bet run scans
also install Malware Anti Bytes also free run scans

when you have done this you should disable the auto run feature

Click Start, click Run, type Gpedit.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
Under Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, and then click System.
In the Settings pane, right-click Turn off Autoplay, and then click Properties.

Note In Windows 2000, the policy setting is named Disable Autoplay.
Click Enabled, and then select All drives in the Turn off Autoplay box to disable Autorun on all drives.
Click OK to close the Turn off Autoplay Properties dialog box.
Restart the computer.

now when you put the suspected drive into the pc you should be able to scan for said virus/malware before it has a chance to re-infect scan as the auto run feature is off scan the drive asap with both anti virus and malware antibytes for extra bit of security dont log in under admin

if your really worried about your thumb drive take it to school and scan it on there pc so if it does go will it aint on yours

this should get you by for your exams

i hope this helps

As buttons points out gpedit is xppro only sorry about that

a quick search on google pointed out this software

i haven't tried, it but rather than just point out that you cant use gpedit it might be useful to provide another option.

just type dougknox into google

Doug's Windows XP Security Console allows you to assign various restrictions to specific users, whether you're running XP Pro or XP Home.
