AVG will not work

Well, it all started yesterday: my 30 day trial for AVG 2011 had run out. I must have done something wrong switching to free edition, 'cause it won't work at all. It can't even uninstall. I have a log file for trying to uninstall, but it's winRAR, and I have no idea how to upload that.

Have you tried AVG Remover 32-bit

After that switch to another AV, e.g. Avira, Avast or Panda Cloud.

No need to stick with an AV that, for some obscure reason, does not work properly on your specific system.

It says AVG isn't installed, but when I go start -> programs, there it is!

EDIT: Forgot to mention; AVG asks me to restart every hour to finish updates, no matter what I do. It did just now.

Hi, use Revo Uninstaller or Windows Installer Clean-Up Utility abd get rid of that software ;)

How do I use those?

Download and install one of them, just start application, choose everything with name AVG and click Remove, it's easy.

Hm, lets remove it manually. Boot your Windows in Safe Mode with Networking first.

When you get to desktop screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to run Task Manager. Click on Processes tab and shut down all processes which have name started with avg.

Go to your Program Files directory on hard disc and find folder from AVG antivirus, right click on it and press Delete.

If your computer denied to delete all files, please use Unlocker from this link to remove them.

After that, please restart your computer and boot normally. Tell me if you still have some problem. Also, you can give me HijackThis log after all to check if AVG left some services running in background.

How do I reboot in safe mode?

Use Google Press F8 on keyboard when you press power button to turn on computer.

I can't...I press F8, and when I get to the screen, I can't move the selection bar.

Nazzgull: if you are suggesting to remove AVG by deleting the program folder, I would first get rid of AVG startup entries (O2, O4, O23)

We can manage that later with HijackThis, first i need to shutdown processes of that thing. But user can't enter Safe Mode for no reason.

It seems as if the comp freezes at that screen--once time it didn't freeze (30 second timer) but I still couldn't select safe mode. The numlock light was off, as if the keyboard hadn't come online yet, even though F8 worked...
