I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 series. Running Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1. Problem is, when i start my computer, i get a black screen that says:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert Windows installation disc and restart computer
2. Choose language and select "Next"
3. Click "Repair your computer"

File: \Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

I inserted installation disc and restarted. Only problem is, nothing happens. Just goes right back to black screen with everything as stated up above. I have looked up and down on the web and cannot find a way to fix it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Hi,
If you want to boot from disc, you have to put First Boot Device in your BIOS settings to CD/DVD Rom.

After that, follow steps Microsoft said to you.

okay, i went to my BIOS and changed the order to have my CD/DVD boot first. this is what i have:

1: CD/DVD PIONEER DVD-RW DVRKD08L (PM)
2: HDD TOSHIBA MK3252GSX (S1)
3: FDD
4: LAN
5: USB MEMORY

i tried it again and still no luck

That should work. You should now put CD and when you start computer press anything on your keyboard to start booting from disc, anyway you should got a message.

ok, it didnt work, but i tried a different route. my brother had a copy of Windows 7 and we decided to just try to change OS's from XP to 7. so we put the disc in and it said press any key to boot from CD or DVD...

i pressed a button and all it does now is stay on that screen...

"press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." it stays on this screen.

no it works, cuz if i dont press any button at all, it just goes back to the original screen that i posted about in the beginning. but it says press any button to boot from CD or DVD, and i do, and it just stays on that screen. my brother said something about i might have lost some "clip" that makes my system default back to booting the HDD first, even if i have my BIOS set to CD to boot first. is that possible? or am i just f***?
