graphics drivers

Hey everyone
please can someone help, I am using my daughters computer and I dont want her to know how computer illiterate I am

The system runs vista home basic (thats all she could afford when she bought the pc) and she has said that I could put Eureka Ultimate Mah-jongg game that was bought for me onto it (I had been playing the game on line and it was making her go over her cap?? which neither of us can afford) anyway the game downloaded all ok but when I go to play it I get a message about not being able to run something to do with needing the updated graphics for the system.

I ahve tried updating the graphics and each site I have tried tells me that I have to pay. Is there a free and easy site that I can go onto to upgrade?? and how do I do it??

Hello, and welcome to GeekPolice.

• To update your graphics driver, you may go to Device Manager which can be located from the Start Menu and using the search box at the bottom.
  
• Open the drop down arrow for Display adapters and this will show what graphics driver is installed on your computer.
  
• If it needs updating you can right-click on the name of the graphics card and select Update Driver Software...

If this does not work, please reply with the name of the graphics card used, or the computer model (if it was not custom made)

Hey back again.
It says that we have Standard VGA Graphics adapters what ever that means. When I right clicked, after it searched it said that we had the current version but when I try to open the game is says unable to start because it could not find a valid graphics mode. This may be due to your video card being inadequate. Please ensure that you have the latest drivers for your video card installed and the latest version of DirectX then try again.

The game I am trying todownload needs vista windows 98 or windows 7

I would appreciate some more help please. Or is it a case that the game is not compatable with the PC I thought it only needed Vista

Hello again, sorry for the late reply.

You can download the graphics driver [VGA Driver v7.14.10.5040] here which was located on the Acer Support page. Sometimes the software for the graphics card may not be installed properly, meaning it is not capable of the full usage. By reinstalling I think this may help with your problem.

For the error message the other area to look at would be to check if you have the latest version of DirectX installed. You may download the latest version of DirectX from here
