Hi all,
I'm new here and I figured this would be the most appropriate place to post this. So yesterday I freaked out because as I was watching the old tube, my Itunes started freezing. It was playing "sexual healing" and it would hang every 5 seconds or so. I thought it was a virus because at that moment everything slowed down. I restarted it only to find that it would not boot properly - hung at loading screen with scrolling bar. I stayed up til 3am)from 11am) trying to find out how to solve it. Went into safemode several times thinking it was a virus trying to install AVG 9. Several times I ran the startup repair tool upon prompting.

Today I called Dell support and they helped me run a diagnostic boot, some error code and voila my cousin's suspicion is confirmed: HDD failure. So I'm getting sent a new one; thing is, I have so much crap on my laptop. I have about 60GB of comics and a lot of my work at my university that I NEED(a load of my research work). In addition, my job data is on there. Can someone teach me how to back it up? My cousin suggested I take my HDD from my tower and make it a slave on my laptop, but how can I transfer stuff if I can't get it/ it's incredibly slow?I am rarely able to get back into my account. I was thinking of making my user folder public and transferring everything via network as backup. When I AM able to, it freezes after 5 minutes, or is just so slow I cannot make the distinction. How can I back up all my material?

if the harddrive is still in good enough condition you should be able to do a live boot off Linux or something else do get accesses to the hard drive. i use slax witch can be found on http://www.slax.org/. if that dose not work you might need take the harddrive to a professional to actual open up the harddrive
