Hi,
Recently I reformatted my computer and everything seems fine except, I cannot connect to the internet. My computer tells me I need to install drivers for a internet device but I dont believe I have one... I have rebooted my modem and my router and I cant think of anything else to try. I know its not the ethernet cable because before I reformatted my computer, my internet was perfect. I dont know if this is a virus problem but I need help and I didn't get any help from the internet section of the forums. Can you help me please?

Thanks,
Matt

hi mattferd,

Have you installed the drivers for your network card?

Is there a specific way I can find out which network card I have or what driver I need to download for the network card?

Please go Start>Run type devmgmt.msc under Network adaptors please let me know what's listed there

Okay theres nothing that says network adaptors but there is one for other devices and under that there is one called Ethernet controller? When I double click on it, it says there is no driver installed for it.

That is it Smile.... Is this a store bought PC or a self built machine? If it is store bought do you have the cd's that came with the machine?

No, this is a self built machine.

Ok. Let's see what happens with these:

try belarc advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

and here for drivers: http://www.network-drivers.com/

I'm heading out soon so I'll be back online later

Hi, I tried belarc advisor but it didn't give me any information about what company I should use. I have a Linksys router and a AMD Athlon 3200+ processor (I think thats what its called). Does that mean I should use linksys, AMD or some other company? I tried most of them but they were wireless drivers and I use a Ethernet cable sooo it didn't work out.

The issue is with your network card. Those are the drivers you will need

Hi,
I understand I need drivers for my network card, but on the belarc advisor scan result under Network Drives it says: None detected.
As well, under the communications tab it says none available and my mac address as 00.0000......etc. What should I do to find out what my network card is. And is it supposed to be displayed in that scan? If not can you please direct me to a link for something of the sort?
Thanks,
Matthew

Hi matt,

Sorry it took me a while to respond yesturday was canada and I had plans. Okay I have a problem now. Everytime I try to start up my PC I get a error saying:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\config\system

I tried using my windows xp disk to use the repair but it brought me to the recovery console. When i did CHKDSK it didn't fix anything, it only told me that there was a problem. Sorry but I'm stuck how can i get my computer to boot?
Thanks,
Matt
