Good afternoon and thank you in advance for this wonderful forum.

Have an EMachines T5048 that I recently used System Restore on. I installed a new MB fan it has been working like a charm for the past few weeks.

I awoke this morning to find a slew of porn/ viagra sites open- as well as the AV Security Suite issue. It almost got in the wee hours of the morning- but I went online and found out I was in a bit of trouble. Selfishly, I felt a bit better knowing I wasn't alone. Misery was fond of company on a small scale.

I made the LAN changes, went into safe mode, and ran Malwarebytes (which ID'd some bad stuff which was removed), rkill (all versions- didn't show anything), as well as Spybot (4issues resolved). I gleefully rubbed my hands together upon restarting my PC (I may have erred here- as the PC wasn't shutting down in a timely manner- 2-plus minutes- so I manually turned off the PC.

Now, after the Windows logo I get a black screen with moving cursor, and cannot boot. Trying again into safe mode gets me a black screen with "safe mode" in all corners. Tried all options- and nothing. I think I made it worse...

I'm hesitant to find fault in the vid card or MB as the PC was running graphic heavy games just last night.

Is there a relation between this annoying malware, the fix, and the black screen of near death?

Hopefully there's a PC Angel who can get my #1 home pc back on the chain gang?

We are going to be using a Windows Recovery Environment to help disinfect the system so it may boot again.

Download the OTLPE Standard REATOGO Windows Recovery Environment.
  • Place a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burning drive.
  • Download OTLPEStd.exe and double-click on it to burn to a CD using ISO Burner.
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start. Change the following settings
    • Change Drivers to Non-Microsoft
    • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
    • When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\_OTL\MovedFiles
    • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
    • Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.

Hello, and thank you for the assistance.

I copied the program, and after attempting to start I got blue screen with

Stop: c0000221 {bad image checksum}
The image apphelp.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match... computed checksum.

Not sure if I made a bad ISO disk- or if I'm walking the plank...

Looks like maybe a bad burn, a thread I found on another forum got the same error but on a different file, then it worked the second time that user tried it. So try burning it again and see what happens this time please.

Got excited for a minute as the REATOGO desktop appeared (haven't those shades of blue in a while).

Upon double-clicking OTLBE icon I got a quick small black window, which went away, followed by another window:

RunScanner Error, ret =999
Error performing inpage operation

I see many appealing icons I want to click- but will wait for further assistance while researching this program.

I was minutes away from taking it to a local unknown- but would rather hit your donate button and feel a sense of assisted accomplishment.
