Hello.

We need to use the RKill Tool by Grinler

Rkill.com <--- Download site

  • Please Download Rkill.com. Save it to your Desktop.
  • Before we begin, you should disable your anti-malware softwares you have installed so they do not interfere RKill running as some anti-malware softwares detect RKill as malicious. Please refer to this page if you are not sure how.

  • NOTE: If you are unable to connect to the site to download rkill, then you should download it to a clean computer and copy it to the infected one via a USB flash drive or CDROM.

  • Once it is downloaded, double-click on the rkill.com in order to automatically attempt to stop any processes associated with Rogue programs.
  • Please be patient while the program looks for various malware programs and ends them.
  • When it has finished, the black window will automatically close and you can continue with the next step.
NOTE: If you get a message that rkill is an infection, do not be concerned. This message is just a fake warning given by the rogue program, when it terminates programs that may potentially remove it. If you run into these infections warnings that close Rkill, a trick is to leave the warning on the screen and then run Rkill again. By not closing the warning, this typically will allow you to bypass the malware trying to protect itself so that rkill can terminate the rogue program. So, please try running Rkill until the malware is no longer running. You will then be able to proceed with the rest of the steps.

If you continue having problems running rkill.com, you can download:
iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe
which are renamed copies of rkill.com, and try them instead.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Please let me know if you received the entire first file. Should I still run RKILL? Or, can I try downloading search and destroy for offline use?

I'm still amazed that you are so helpful; I really do know better and this was a wakeup call now that I need my computer more than ever.

Thank you so very much.

So I'm thinking I need to dowload boot files onto my flash drive for XP and see if that will let me boot in safe mode; then remove the program that crashed it and run RKILL (I never did that because I was able to get on through another user name, which I'm thinking is when I got the n.ue something virus that won't let me get an IP address. Does that sound about right?

Yes, sounds like it.

Okay, try via Safe Mode.

Can't log in on safe mode either; I was looking at some sites about booting to USB drives, and it looks fairly complicated. I have XP Media Edition w/SATA drive NTFS. Any suggestions? I've never had to boot from a USB before.

Thanks!

I'm not very savvy as you can tell, but I don't think my system is FAT32; is this possible? I want to create a bootable flash drive and they all say to format as FAT32 but I know it is partitioned; does that mean anything?

I'm really nervous about doing this, it looks way over my head, but I'm willing to try. If you can tell from my earlier posts what I have and where to direct me for the files, I would be very grateful.

Thanks again.

Hello.
Your current partition is set as NTFS, which is the preferred one. Formatting to FAT32 is your option really.

The easiest method is probably create a boot disc from CD rather than USB.

Best software to boot from is either UBCD4Windows/TinyXP/Linux.

For me, I prefer Linux, cause it's open source and free to download.

I'm using my friend's computer and she doesn't have a CD burner, but I've used things from Tiny before so that's cool; forgot it's been so long. Just so I make sure I know what I'm doing, this is not overwriting my OS, just booting to it so I can run RKILL and go from there, right?

Also, won't you need another OTL log since I have the n.uequel (I think that's close to the name) virus now too?

Also, I can't do much financially right now, but when I get back to usability at home, I will become active. It'll be fun Smile...

Ah, forget all of the above then.

Now I know your experienced in burning CD software, lets use this, it's one of our actual tools that uses Linux based boot software.

We are going to be using a Windows Recovery Environment to help disinfect the system so it may boot again.

Download the OTLPE Standard REATOGO Windows Recovery Environment.
  • Place a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burning drive.
  • Download OTLPEStd.exe and double-click on it to burn to a CD using ISO Burner.
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start. Change the following settings
    • Change Drivers to Non-Microsoft
    • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
    • When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:_OTLMovedFiles
    • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
    • Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.

Please note we are currently having forum software problems, so where it says "the file will be saved in drive C:_OTLMovedFiles" should actually be C:/_OTL/MovedFiles

Hi,

I don't have a CD burner on the computer I'm using, but I have a friend that I think can help me. I have my computer set to boot to the USB right now. Can I put the program on a blank flash drive and boot from that?

Thanks again; this is making me nuts. I have always been so careful, and one stupid move...jeez.

Not sure that would work, it needs to be a CD.
