will ram boost work with vista basic and Ie 8 ? I not sure if its a good idea to download this to increase my computers speed? http://rambooster.net/ this is what it does

RAM Booster .Net is a Memory Optimizer; it's a smart memory management program that will keep your computer (PC) running better, faster, and longer. RAM Booster allows you to instantly free up memory when your system slows down.

So stay away from that software.

Best way to increase memory is to reduce on startup programs and unnecessary bloatware.
Also you could check out the tips here

What you could do is simply startup your computer and when it is up and running press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up the task manager and look through your Processes tab, especially those using a lot of RAM.
After that Google for the processes that you donĀ“t directly know and usually you find what they are, if they are useful and if not, how to get rid of them.

It is a little work, but good for the grey cells and for your knowledge Smile...

Also blackviper.com gives excellent advice on windows services, pointing out what they do and which are the most useless.

I once had a Windows XP SP3 running using only 62 MB.
