Monitor shakes, flickers, then no signal

I'm stumped as to what is wrong with my computer. Out of nowhere, it started doing this:

The output on screen starts shaking (the entire desktop), then the monitor starts turning black, then coming back on, and on and off quickly a few times, and then finally it just goes black and reads "no signal" (as if the computer was off).

If I turn the computer off for some time, and then start it back up, it works for a while and then the problem begins again.

Suspecting an overheating issue, I checked the video card fan and it was fine. Therefore, I swapped video cards in case the video card was faulty, and, no difference.

And that is where I stand now. If I restart the computer after the screen finally flickers off and stays off, nothing comes on screen upon startup.

This makes me think it's clearly a hardware problem/heating problem, so I'm wondering if it is the motherboard, since the video card doesnt appear to be the problem.

Any ideas?? Your suggestions are appreciated.

What type of monitor are you using? LCD or CRT?

Hello Doctor Inferno. I am using an LCD.

What is the make of the LCD? If its a dell they have a huge issue with capacitors.

I switched the output over to my TV and realized indeed my 4 year old Viewsonic LCD is failing.

Solution? Went out and bought an LG E2350V LED.
