Hi,
I've been having on-again-off-again overheating issues with my Gateway P-6860 FX laptop ever since I bought it. I'm 99% sure it's due to overheating because shutdowns occur much less frequently when I elevate the back of my laptop. I'm not sure if it's my GPU though (Nvidia 8800m gts 512mb). I used RivaTuner to check my temps in game and my GPU usually hit about 90 degrees Celsius when shutdowns occured. What's got me confused though is that my computer doesn't shut down when playing games like Crysis, Supreme Commander, or other games that really lag it. It always shuts down in older games with silky frame rates, like Swat 4, half life 2 mods, and Cossacks. I can't imagine my GPU being able to handle Crysis and not Swat 4. Is there some specific graphics setting that I check in the older games that could be causing this, like anti-aliasing or vsync? Btw, I've updated my drivers many times over the 2 years I've had my laptop and never seen any change.
