I had a tricky virus/malware issue that Chiaz helped me clear up, but at some point during that process, my PC wasn't able to connect to the internet anymore.
When I go into my modem settings, it says I'm connected (all the icons in my network connections say the same thing as well), but when I try to do anything involving the internet, my PC can't connect. Verizon sent me a new modem, and that hasn't worked either. The PC I'm on currently is connected via my wireless router, so that still seems to be working at least... I tried using the Verizon modem installation CD, and it wouldn't work because (1) it couldn't find the connected Westell modem, and (2) it needed to connect to the internet in order to even set up. Annoyed or Unimpress
I've tried the netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log fixes, as well as Winsock XP Fix, but they didn't fix this issue.

If viewing the logs from the whole virus/malware removal session that Chiaz helped me with would help at all, it can all be viewed here.

Thank you very much for your time in advance. :smile2:

It almost seems as though my ethernet port or something my system needs for the port isn't working correctly. When I searched for hardware (to see if hardware had been removed), a port was added to the device manager called "Communications Port (COM4)", but it has a little yellow and black exclamation symbol on it, and isn't working properly and/or can't install properly, but if that is the problem here, I don't know how to set up the port manually.
Also, if it helps at all, this is the step Chiaz gave me that I followed during the disinfection of my PC that seemed to trigger this problem with connecting to the internet:

Please copy this page to *Notepad* and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.
1. Close any open browsers.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

FCopy::
c:\windows\system32\dllcache\tcpip.sys|c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
c:\windows\$hf_mig$\KB902400\SP2QFE\es.dll|c:\windows\system32\es.dll
c:\windows\system32\dllcache\mswsock.dll|c:\windows\system32\mswsock.dll
File::
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\2434D1AF02.sys
c:\windows\system32\DC5C266260.sys

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe which is on the Desktop.

Can't Connect to the Internet CFScript

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt

Please copy and paste the ComboFix.txt in your new reply.

*Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall. Altering this script in any way could damage your computer.*

I've tried everything I know how to, and nothing's worked so far. Really appreciate any help I can get with this.

Do you have Windows XP CD at home ?

First of all, have you got any other computer/laptops you can test on your network? This would rule out its not a hardware issue... Secondly you should find the name of the original infection and see if any sockfixes have been made for it... Would it be worth downloading a socketfix and resetting your ipconfig also?
