Can't remember password to login Windows XP on old laptop...?

Is there anyway to find, or wipe out, or get past the Login Screen for Windows XP? I have an old laptop, haven't used it in 4 yrs, and want to clean it up and donate - but I can't remember the login password (tried all of the "usual ones" that I have used in the past - Not sure what I could have changed it to!)

I do have disks for Windows XP - from a Dell desktop I have (not from this Dell Laptop that I'm trying to access). Is there a way to use those disks to get on -- or do I have to wipe out everything and re-load operating system?

IF I do need to wipe out everything - to start over - how do I do that ?

if you are going to donate it i would suggest you wipe the hard drive and reload it. but if you dont have the means to do that you can download a Password reset tool here

you can also hit f8 i think when the computer is starting and if you log in as administrator you can remove the password on the account your talking about then reset it later.

Thank you Aussie! The F8 key worked like a charm. I had my old laptop from 1 year ago- couldn't remember the password to save my life. I was not the Administrator Account though! I had my name and then my own password. F8 helped me to get into safe mode and remove the password. I left the Administrator account alone! Thanks again!!! Now I can try to reset things to give to my mom who doesn't even know how to turn a computer on!!!- Here come the lessons!!!
