Hi,
Last night all sorts of warnings and messages were popping up telling me my computer had been hijacked, it was being hacked, personal information was being stolen, etc. Then boxes offering help with an unregistered version of XP Antivirus Pro popped up again and again warning me about what was going on and asking me if I'd like to stop the invasion, protect myself, etc. I had good advice from my partner and didn't click on anything, just closing the boxes (sometimes having to click on 'do nothing' or 'continue unprotected.'
When we checked the real security center we saw that my firewall was down and my antivirus protection was off (with no yellow box there with the recommendations for turning them back on).
I turned the computer off last night and today I can turn it on, but when I go to log in, I put in my password and it goes to the personal setting message and then switches to 'logging off.' I can't even get into it today.
Can you please help me? Thanks so much.
Mary Kay

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hi Belahzur,
Thanks for the information. Today I can't even log on to my computer. Is there a way to log on so that I can download OTL and follow your instructions?

Hello.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.

Are you able to boot to Safe Mode without problems or does the same happen?

I did it and I got the log in page with me and the system administrator. I put in my password and a new screen came up with me, the system administrator and a new administrator (on the top) with a karate guy as the picture. Should I try to log in again on this page? Thanks.

I tried, and it just brought me back to this 'welcome' page after the 'loading your personal settings' message.

Hi,
Thanks so much for your help. This is my work computer and the tech guy at work says when I get back in state, he'll load a program on with a cd or jump drive and take care of it. Thanks so much for your help. It's good to know that there are good people out there to help!
