HELP PLEASE

i have a dell latitude D810 laptop. my viruse sercurity ran out so i purched XP internet security 2 years 69.99. i bought it and not everytime i try to open something like internet explorer it asks how i want to open it and a list of things. i try to go to control pannel and add/delete programs and it says application not found?????? any help please
