Hi there!

My friend Crubeenette posted a request for me because I had no internet access, but lo and behold it's come back, albeit in a v.simplistic mode and it still shows signs of infection, although the little 'microsoft' security icon used by the virus is no longer visible, I keep getting odd screens trying to flog me things...games, online casino, that sort of stuff!!

I can only access the internet/e-mails by right clicking and using 'start'. But I am in and it appears to be fuctioning. (The wrong spelling but it appears to be so much more eloquent!)

Crubee talked me though d/l and running 'hijackthis'. However, as I started to run the file a warning message popped up and said that it couldn't be done as it couldn't 'write' the files. I closed this box (before Crubee told me not to...) and then the scan went ahead, although Crubee says it could now be virally corrupted data.

Idk. The info' is pasted below. Please be aware that whilst Crubee knows a LOT...I know nothing! But m.thx for trying to help me!!

Hi,

Shirl here posting again for Dee as she's now lost internet access again.

She attempted to make the deletions but says that the line:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [YVIBBBHA8C] C:\DOCUME~1\JOHNTH~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Smh.exe

was not present today, even though clearly it was part of the Hijack Log y/day.

She then tried to go online to get the latest Malwarebytes but could no longer get online. Is there anything else she can do, please?

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

Windows Internet Security -- Trojan -- please help CF_download_FF

Windows Internet Security -- Trojan -- please help CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

Windows Internet Security -- Trojan -- please help Cf410

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

Windows Internet Security -- Trojan -- please help Cf510

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thank you so much for trying to help me...in the end it just completely overwhelmed me, since I'm not v.computer literate. If my friend Crubeenette had lived closer, (she's o/100miles away) I'm sure she would have been able to do your bidding.

So, although I actually wanted to use a sledghammer on it (and the people who write these viruses), I took it into a local Computer shop who've delivered it back to me, clean and super fast!

Thanks again!

Dee
