Hello, I'm Suebeetrue.

I have a desktop Dell on which I downloaded Eset Nod 32 antispyware system security 2009. I now cannot get to my Start menu ,cannot see my Desktop, cannot use system restore, cannot get on the internet. The computer is completely shutdown-I mean I can see the Welcome screen and it looks like it is going to continue on to my Desktop but all I get is the screensaver. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what I can do to get this THING off of my computer!?! I am really, really , frustrated! Please if anyone know what will eradicate it please let me know!

Nice to meet 'cha and thanks so much!
Suebeetrue Thank You! Bring it on

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

This did not help me because when I tried to download from a cd disc ,I could not get to the programs to run it (and it did not pop up on the screen like it usually does when you download a program).

Maybe I didn't explain my problem thoroughly enough. A program called Windows Internet Security 2010 accidently got downloaded onto our dell desktop computer. It runs windows xp. After it was downloaded , it changed it's name to Eset Nod 32 Antivirus Version4. Basically,it has locked my computer -I can now get my Start Menu to come up SOMETIMES, but no files will open, I cannot get on the internet,I cannot get to BACK-UP AND RESTORE, I cannot get programs to run. It has brought my computer to a standstill.

I am on another computer right now talking to you. THIS IS NOT THE AFFECTED COMPUTER.This computer could transfer files to that computer ,but I am afraid of getting infected,I found E-set Nod Antivirus Had attached itself in the e-mail up in the toolbar area. The e-mails don't work anyway.but I still immediately deleted the whole e-mail!

The one thing that has helped somewhat is pressing ALT +F4 and that has prompted a pop-up saying that there is a problem with E-set Nod 32 and you could see the little desktop icon come to a stop!! After that though ,nothing else works when you get the Start Menu to open.

Does anyone have any ideas? Please -this computer has many important files that if we could recover them I would be so very grateful! I am only so-so on the computer, but I can follow directions GREAT!

Looking for computer savvy imagination to help!

Hello.
Please try accessing the internet via Safe Mode with networking.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the second option, to run Windows in Safe Mode with networking, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.

Can you access the internet now?

I can only get to Safe Mode. When I try to go to Safe Mode with Net workiking it freezes up while it is loading the drivers and stops. I was able to get to RUN and ENTER wmimgmt.msc which got me to the MMC console for the wmi. services but after I opened a couple of files then everything froze up again.

I'm trying, but I need something that circumvents the main entrances and I am not computer savvy to know how get to around that way. Thank you for trying to help me ,most people would just throw their hands up and say "too bad, that's your problem!", but you have been just great and I want to
thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Whatever happens you at least tried!

Sincerely,
Suebeetrue
Cheers Mate

Lets try a boot disc.

Avira AntiVir Rescue System is a Linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore.

  • Download The Avira AntiVir Rescue System from Antivir.de.
  • Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD.
  • Then please use that CD/DVD with Avira Rescue System to boot your computer.
You'll get a boot option to either boot from hard drive or AntiVir Rescue System.

Press the number 2 on your keyboard to boot into AntiVir Rescue System.

Please wait until drivers are loaded and Main menu shows. Then please select the second option “Scan your system with AntiVir” and hit Enter.

Under Configuration, please select Scan all files, Try to repair infected files and Rename files if they cannot be removed?.

Then please start the scan.

The Avira AntiVir Rescue System wil now

  • repair a damaged system,
  • rescue data,
  • scan the system for virus infections.

I am going to go through the steps I went with Antivir because I could not ever get it to fully boot and now I need your help in doing a RUN CHKDSK/F without being able to get to the desktop or any files or any help tools.

First I loaded the Antivir program onto a CD ,then I went to the infected computer and went to the Boot Options, but there were several Boot Options.

One group listed on the Boot Device Menu -Normal,Diskette, Hard Disk Drive,Ide CD-Rom Device, System Set-Up,Ide Drive Diagnostics,Boot To Utility Partition. I chose Diskette. Then I went to Boot Options and this is was what came up 1)Boot Anti-Vir 2)1st Hard Drive ADVANCED USERS ONLY: 3) Anti-Vir (800x600 16) VGA=788 4)Anti-Vir(102x768 16)
VGA=791 5)Anti-Vir VGA=ASK. I chose Boot option 1.Then only 2 lines loaded from Anti-Vir. It had the info of who had developed Anti-Vir ,but then only 2 lines loaded gmlinuz........... and intard.gz............After that nothing happened I tried the other Boot Options and the same thing happened. Finally I got the message that the computer was shutting down and I needed to check my drive configuration and uninstall any new antivirus or new drivers and RUN a CHKDSK/F.

Now I have all of the info that was on the set-up utility and I am not sure if it will help you but I am going to give it to you just on the off chance that it has some info that will help you understand what is going on.
