Computer will not boot after virus

I think I have the Security 2010 virus. Tried to get rid of thru malware program. But it didn't work and now when started it shows the dell screen and then goes black. Tried to open in safemode and repair with the xp disc but same thing happened after that. Didn't seem to do anything. Thanks for any help!!

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

• Double click and run the installer.
  
• It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  
• After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  
• Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.
  

I can not get the computer to turn on to where I can download. sorry.. I am on a different computer looking for help. When I turn on the computer it starts to boot up and then the screen goes black.

Could be a graphics card problem, you using on-board or PCI?

not to sound too stupid but I'm not really sure. My guess is an on board.

Well, the screen going black, is that after you login? because that would likely be malware problem, but going black [as in switching off like] would be a graphics card problem.

I think it is not booting up . It starts and then goes blank. It is still on, just nothing is on the screen. I had a virus and tried to instal the anti malware but it didn't work and kept shutting down. And now it won't even boot up all the way. Tried to open in safe mode (non network) and hit the xp operating system and then it loads about 15 lines of different system things and then nothing happens.

Hmm, do you have your XP disc?

Okay, put your XP disc in the machine, then reboot the machine.
See if the screen still dies on you when booting from the CD instead of the HHD.

do I need to hit any of the function keys like in safe mode or just put the disc in and power up?

Your computer may ask you to hit any key to boot from the CD, but you'll notice that if it wants it.

Ok, I did that and now my chooses on the screen are:
-to set up windows xp now press enter
- to repair windows xp using Recovery console press R
- to quit setup without installation press 3

I know you know, but I don't want to lose any my the files on the computer
Which do I pick?
