Internet Explorer 8 in XP Stopped Working

I have IE8 in XP. I am using a Toshiba laptop. I am able to use Skype and Windows Messenger, but when I try to open IE it says that it is unable to open the page. I have checked ports, firewall, etc. I have tried connecting directly to the phone outlet (bypassing the wireless router). Other people in my family are able to connect via the router.

This last weekend I got a nasty virus which I finally was able to eliminate with your help. IE did work immediately after removing the virus.

I am using someone else's laptop. Is there a way to get this to mine without having access to the internet?

Download it through the laptop your are using now and transfer it over with a flash drive.
