I recommend you remove the Java Quick Starter because it's not needed.
To do so, follow these instructions.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Java.
In the Java control panel, open the click the Advanced tab. Click the + in front of Miscellaneous and uncheck the Java Quick Starter box.

How is the machine running now?

I deleted all the ones that were there, but then when I re-scanned after restart, they just popped back up there.

It's still laggy as well.

More than likely the teacher software/Zen blocking the change.
You'll need to go into msconfig (you know how to do that right? ) and turn off some startup items in there.
