after disinfecting some items in my computer the other day i am now having trouble connecting to the internet.

After i put in the internet settings in the networking options, the settings disappear after i click ok and it tries to connect but then if it doesnt succeed i go back to the options the settings i select are gone.

it actually connected to the internet the other day but the little icon in the system tray said it wasnt connected. but i was able to surf the internet and everything fine.

Here is the topic about disinfecting the items from the other day: http://www.geekpolice.net/virus-spyware-malware-removal-f11/problem-with-mcafee-error-starting-on-demand-scanner-t15946.htm, just in case this info helps you.

Hello,

Open CMD, Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart your PC.

If it doesn't work, download Winsock XP Fix from here, save it to your Desktop.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Double click on the exe on your Desktop.
Press the "Fix" button, then restart again.

See if you can connect now.
