I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent the autoplay function in windows xp or if it's a bad idea to even try doing so? When I plug in a flash drive or external harddrive into a usb port a popup box titled "autoplay" comes up and it looks like it does a rapid scan through the files on the external hardware. I then get offered a box asking me what action I would like to take (play all, open folder to view files, no action, etc.). I'm wondering if there is a way to stop this. Ideally I'd like to just have the usb show up in the "my computer" pannel and then be able to get into that way without the autoplay menu.
I hope this is the right section. I couldn't decide if it was more software or operating system. Thanks.
