Hi,

I'm running Windows XP on a Dell laptop. I was infected with Personal Guard 2009 this past week, which I think I finally got rid of thanks to Geek Police. Somehow I lost internet connectivity during the infection or in the process of trying to get rid of it. I have an excellent connection to my wireless network according to my wireless card (Intel PROSet), but it is saying that it can't get a valid IP address, thus no internet. Other laptops are able to connect and gain internet access through my router, so I don't think it is the problem. I tried to repair it using the Windows wireless manager, but that didn't work either. Connecting directly to the router via ethernet cable is not working either - cannot acquire network address. The IP address is through the Local Area Connection is 169.254.59.87, but this doesn't get me a connection.

Thanks for your help

Hello,

Open CMD, Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart your PC.

If it doesn't work, download Winsock XP Fix from here, save it to your Desktop.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Double click on the exe on your Desktop.
Press the "Fix" button, then restart again.

See if you can connect now.
