Every time I turn on my computer it freezes up at different points, (the last time I tried it froze up at the login screen.) I did manage to run Avast, but it froze up during the scan. I can't get very far without it freezing up. I tried Safe Mode and it still froze up. So due to all this, I'm unable to run a HiJack This log. When the Computer freezes up, nothing works I have to hit the power button to restart and when it restarts it does a disk check, that says:
Checking file system of c:
the type of file system is FAT32
one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency
I don't know what this means, or if it's related.
Any ideas? Thanks for your time Smile...

Hello,

That is a regular disk check by Windows. And as it states your disks needs to be checked for consistency. But since you're unable to run HijackThis and fully complete a scan in Avast, its most probably malware related.

I don't know which antivirus you use ?
Yes, Windows CD is OS ( Oeprating System). You can borrow, but you have to be sure it's Windows XP.

Thanks for the quick response! I use Avast. Do you know what exactly is wrong with my computer?

descriptionComputer Freezes up EmptyRe: Computer Freezes up

You can find Avast TrayIcon near your clock in bottom right corner of your screen. Right click on it than "Stop On-Access Protection".It's stopped now.

Yes, your computer is fine, but your system is corrupted. SFC command will search your system for missing files. If some file missing, computer will copy them from Windows CD.

Error-Checking - It will automatically fix file system error, and look for bad sectors of your computer, which will be restored or ignored.

I hope this will solve your problem. But, you have to post HijackThis log file later. This freezes, and file missing, are probably caused by malware. So, try guide upside, to back your computer to normally work, than scan your computer with Hijack, and post your log to Virus,Spyware&Malware Removal forum.

  • Select both methods and press Scan button.
  • If you got prompt for restart than checking, click Yes.

hang on a second...I tried doing the scannow thing again, and the computer restarted on it's own. hopefully that's normal? it didn't look like it finished.

You should try it again. If restart happen again, you have Hardware problem. And you should visit some computer repair shop.
