Hey Geekpolice!

I got a lot of help from this site when I had the 'WinBlueSoft' virus on my computer - I had to end up reinstalling the system though Sad tearing

Anyway...

I've got something else now. I don't know how I got it or anything! I think it might be time to change my antivirus from AVG to something else.

Well I think the thing I've got this time is not as major as WinBlueSoft. A little red balloon appears in the bottom right corner of the taskbar stating something along the lines of, "Windows Firewall is turned off. Click this balloon to turn it on." If I leave it and not click it, it dissasppears. When I go into the Control Panel and Securty to see if Windows Firewall is turned off, it is not turned off. So this balloon appearing in the bottom right corner is obviously fake!

I tried using Malwarebytes to get rid of it but no luck. I opened Malwarebytes, started the scan and after a bit, Malwarebytes suddenly shuts down and when I try to open it again, I get the following pop-up - "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". When I restarted my computer, the red Malwarebytes file icon had changed into the white icon, like it has been deleted or something :S I can uninstall Malwarebytes and install it again, but the same thing happens when I start a scan! I also used a program called 'Advanced System Care 3' which I have used in the past. I began a full scan and it scanned so much but got to a certain point and suddenly closed and couldn't re-open. The exact same thing that happened with Malwarebytes! So I think there's a specific file somewhere that closes the programs down when they reach the file!

My Google searches have also been Hijacked! When I click a link from Google search results, some of them redirects me to a different site! This doesn't happen all of the time though.

I'm just wondering if you guys could help me out!? It doesn't seem to have blocked anything else like WinBlueSoft did.

Do you want me to install HiJackThis and give you a logfile or something?

Cheers,
Matt.

Hey Belahzur!

Bad news Sad tearing
I've just tried running a System Scan - "Do a system scan and save a log file". It ran for so long and then suddenly shut down like Malwarebytes did Sad tearing I try opening HiJackThis again and the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" appears again.

Any ideas what I can do?

Thanks mate,
Matt.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: HERE

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventlog.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Hello.
2 more scans, I need to check for a rootkit infection, and whatever else is hiding still....

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt just yet.

  • Copy the bolded text below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :files
    c:\program files\MalwareScanner
    c:\windows\system32\xa.tmp

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click in the "Paste instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Please post the OTMoveIt log.
