computer is confusing

I'm very new to the computers and it's like trying to speak or understand a foreign language . ok so I'm a senior citizen at the age of seventy . what I want to say is I don't know the meaning of a lot of the word or procedure to do what I need to do . like I got a pop up message that I 'm low on virtual memory . but what is it and how do I get it. I have a sony viao and window xp. glad to have found this site

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.
7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

thank's so much . you helped when my armstrong tech help could'nt I had to open two windows and shrink them down so I could have both on my screen .your help was so good that when I tried to get goolge it was a ten minute wait ,now it's only second's. the memory was set on 1546 and I raised it to 2000 and wow I could not believe the response time
